This year we returned to Barcelona’s GameLab 2013. This edition was a very different experience from last year’s, it felt smaller and was more proffesional oriented and wasn’t open to the public. The Barcelona Filmoteca was not bigger as Montjuic Palace; however conferences were very interesting but unfortunaly we didn’t have enough time to go many of them because we had a lot of meetings. The market is leaning more and more towards free games, where users can play for free but need to pay to take adventage against rivals improving characters, towns, castles, worlds, etc… Yes, players can play for free but will enjoy only the 20% of the real experience.
And on the same way, meanwhile Montjuic Palace offers a more profesional background, the GameLab 2013 was located in the Raval area, but the area full of prostitute on every corner. This was hardly the best and profesional image for these kind of events. What we more heard from assistant was… “did you imagine E3 surrounded by prostitutes?”. Also, the networking/meeting area was a room with crystal walls, so we can watch the street and the meetings were constatly halted to watch the views of all of this “fresh flesh” LOL 😉 Many of them were very attractive 😀 Of course, she offers, like the games, for “Free”, you can watch them, talk with them (and you must not worry if you are shy, she will do the first approach) but if you really want the full experience, you must to pay, just like the games LOL 😉
Our next games “Hell IX” and “CapsBall” liked so much to gamers and publishers, however not in the same way, meanwhile for gamers and/or other developers “Hell IX” was very attractive, CapsBall was the prefers for publishers. Hell IX is another game who follow our company basic phylosophy were we take the soul of classic gameplay and remake a new game, this game is based on classic games like Tiger Helix, Desert Strike, Air Rescue, etc… Here we show some screen captures from actual development, we hope to have a video or playable demo for next week. This game is for iOS, Android, PC & Mac and he will have four huge maps with diferent scenary; desert, jungle, archipielago and city.
However, Capsball was more interesting for publishers, maybe for his monetization system or because it is a multiplayer game or because it is football/soccer related game. Here you can see an gameplay video from alpha version. We hope to have a playeable demo in the middle of July. This game will be for iOS & Android but also for browser playing. This game is based on a kids game very popular on mediterranean countries and latinoamerica. It is a sort of soccer board game played with bottle caps. This game will let the players play games in an asymetric way, so both players not need to be online at same time and can be played mutidevice, a game can starts on smartphone and when user arrives home (or office) continue playing with desktop computer browser.
[vimeo https://vimeo.com/64134042]Finaly, but not less important, our actual game, Fixie Joe” received very good critics from profesionals, for example Rovio (Angry Birds) thinks “a beautiful game very well executed” and they make us feel proud of our first serious game. Even Nintendo want we port our game for Wii U market. And from this week Fixie Joe for Android will be fully free with ad support. Players only need to finish every level with grade “A” to unlock the next level (visiting advertisers will help too to unlock levels). Oh and Fixie Joe will be available for Play Stick when they reach the market next September or October.
